How I Get Straight A's GUARANTEED (tips, tricks, and habits!)

Updated: Oct 16, 2022

There are millions of things you have probably said to make up for why you aren't acing every assignment.

"I'm not smart enough!"

"I don't have enough time!"

If you've clicked on this article, chances are you want good grades, but you don't have the motivation to get them. Putting it simply- there's no way around it. The only way to get good grades is through hard work. Luckily for you, this post is here to give you my tips, tricks, and habits so you can become that straight-A student!

1. Find YOUR Perfect Time to Study

Everyone's brain works best at different times. I find that it is easiest to concentrate in the morning. Right after I wake up, I make sure to reserve a 20-minute block of time for studying. In the morning, no other thoughts are in my head, making it much easier to focus. Once you find your perfect study time, you can start small and eventually increase this block of time.

If you continue to do this every day and make it a habit, you'll find that when a test comes around, you'll have to study for considerably less time. Making this into a routine will take time, however, so stick to it. It takes 18 days to build a habit!

2. BUILD UP Your Study Time

Good news- you don't need to grind and study for ten hours every day. Start small. If you've just started building the habit of revising every day, study for just 10 minutes. If you stare at the computer screen and read textbook after textbook, you'll never absorb the information.

After a few days of studying for ten minutes, you can double the amount of time. Eventually, studying for an hour will feel like you've hardly studied for ten minutes. You'll notice the effects of doing this once an exam arrives. While reviewing, you will realize that you can now remember all the information you learned in school.

Your mind is clearer during an exam when you know that all the information wasn't crammed into your head the night before.

3. Take a Step Back EVERY 20 Minutes

I can't begin to list the number of times I've started reading a textbook, then realized I had no idea what I was reading halfway into the chapter. It's the same as zoning out in class- you tend not to listen to the information you don't think is interesting. Taking a break ever so often has been a studying LIFESAVER for me.

The second you feel like the information you're looking at is going in one ear and out the other, stop studying. Step away from the screen to go outside or clean your room. Once you return to studying, your brain will be refreshed and ready to review more information.

4. Create a TO-DO List

Creating a to-do list has helped my grades immensely. If you don't already have a planner or notebook where you write down everything you need to accomplish- get one immediately. Having everything you need to do in one place makes it easier to stay organized.

When you are visually able to see things that you have to do, it also increases productivity. It's sort of a way to tell yourself, "You already wrote this down. You have to do this!" There's no way to make an excuse for doing it tomorrow.

A to-do list or planner also improves your memory. This way, you aren't very likely to forget an assignment. Doing some of your work little by little is more productive than procrastinating and doing everything the night before. There's no way to forget the due date of an assignment. Making a to-do list or planner is a MASSIVE grade booster.

5. 3 MAIN Things Method

The 3 main things method is the easiest way to organize your schoolwork and mindset. It's my secret weapon not to get overwhelmed by a large amount of work. All you have to do is think about the most important things you want to accomplish in one day. Do you want to finish the English essay? Or possibly the math homework? List down the main things you need to do.

Now, all you have to do is concentrate on just completing these tasks, instead of trying to get everything done at once. You don't need to work on an assignment due in one week if you have five due tomorrow. After finishing the important tasks, you can move on to other things you would like to do. With this method, you can analyze what you have to do and when you have to do it.

Now that you've seen all of my tips, hopefully, you can become a straight-A student yourself! It may not be easy to change your study habits and organization skills, but it's totally worth it in the long run.
